Voices at the World’s Edge: Irish Poets on Skellig Michael by Collected
Rating: 4/5. Perfectly encapsulating my feelings toward the Skelligs, Kerry, and Ireland as a whole.

Point docked because the inclusion of Cathal Ó Searcaigh considering the events that would’ve come to light not long before the formation of this book.

Otherwise, this is a wonderful collection of works telling a range of emotions towards the indomitable Skellig Michael — ranging from awe and respect to even fears. I’ve always wanted to visit this rock in the ocean, and a single phrase kept popping up with the various writers that confirmed my draw to the place–‘sea to sky’.

I’m from the Sea to Sky Corridor in British Columbia originally, and perhaps it’s silly to take something like this as an omen, but…there you have it. The desire to take myself to the Southern Peak hermitage and sit, looking out over the grey, is intense. Maybe I’d find nothing there; maybe I’d find everything. I can’t know.
