My rating: 4 of 5 stars
3.5 stars. A basic, fact-filled primer on the Irish Famine Migration to Toronto in 1847. I myself know very little about the Famine, despite having lived in Kerry for over thirteen years — so I’ve been making more of an effort to expand my knowledge. It’s obvious that there’s so much more to these events than what’s contained in this book, but this is a solid start.
I do wish that it wasn’t so skittish about showing more of England’s role in this disaster, as the author chose to avoid ‘political’ takes as much as possible.
